Soldering Workshop Thu, October 9th, 6:00pm to 8:30pm:
Come by the Lab from 6pm-8:30pm to learn to solder! We’ll be assembling Weevil Eye’s from Sparkfun. Donations welcome, RSVP [email protected] so we know you’re coming.
Python Session Wednesday, October 23, 6pm – 8pm:
Inexperienced and experienced  programmers gather to jam on Python code. This session focuses on lesson’s from Python The Hard Way.
Locksports Wednesday Wed, October 30, 6pm – 8pm:
Come by the Lab and learn about the inner working of locks, safes, and other physical security devices!

Events Laboratory B Members will be present at:

VT Hackathon:  Sam & Friends will be competing in the HackVt event hosted by MyWebGrocerDealer.com Fairpoint Communications and C2 Computing. October 11-12. Jesse might be flying his multicopter around the building!
PumpCon: Laboratory B member Jesse will be in Philly for PumpCon a very old school hacker con. PumpCon is the 25-27th of October.
GoRuck Challenge: Jesse will be attempting the GoRuck Challenge (second time) Saturday the 5th at 1Am. It’s not that tech, but it’s crazy fun.

TechJam: Laboratory B is proud to have a table at the Techjam along with Burlington’s other makerspaces. We’ll be there talking about Burlington Gig, Tech Outreach, what’s going on at the Lab and other fun stuff. October 18-19th at Memorial Auditorium in Burlington. Ask us about the after party.

Random but Cool:

Champlain Mini Maker Faire Roundup 2013

The Laboratory B crew had a great time at the two day  Champlain Mini Maker Faire! With the support of Sparkfun (Thanks, Dave(s) and Jeff) we taught kids & adults how to solder! We had three kits in the mix this year, Weevil Eye, Big Time Watch & Mr. Roboto. If you had trouble with your kit or ran out time please feel free to swing by the Lab, but let us know your coming ([email protected]) Awesome!

Laboratory B Goes to Art Hop

The Laboratory B Crew and friends went out to Art Hop to show people how to make throwies and have a good time. We got together at the Lab around 5:30 assembled some throwies and made some awesome silly cyberpunk costumes (sorta). Then it was down to SEABA’s Art Hop. Art Hop is party open gallery show, part street fair and part Burning Man down on Pine Street.

It was great to see the Vermont Makers crew, and the Generator folks out too on Pine Street.

Art Hop: September 6-8, 2013 | Laboratory B CyberPunk Parade!
Laboratory B is having a CyberPunk Costuming Party before Art Hop, and then we are going down to make a spectacle of ourselves and check out some Art.  Check out the R.U Cyberpunk & The Real CyberPunk Fake Book available at the Lab. Leather Jackets, Mirror Shades, & Lasers are the way!
Co-op Happy Hour: Hackerspaces Edition: September 10th, 6pm-8pm:
Summer’s almost over, and it’s time once again for Vermont Cooperators to gather for pizza, beverages, and good conversation. This time around we’ll be gathering at Burlington’s hackerspace, Laboratory B, and there will be a short presentation from members about the hackerspace model/movement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackerspace). This Co-op Happy Hour will also be attended by a visiting delegation of students of cooperation from Japan, so be sure to stop by for some interesting cross-cultural discussions! BYOB, and if you want pizza, bring a few bucks to chip in…

Solarfest Recap..

On Sunday Aaron, Justin & Jesse headed down to Tinmouth, for Solarfest. Solarfest was billed as a blends  of art, education, and outreach to inspire conservation, promote renewable energy, and support sustainable communities. Laboratory B was their to support a maker presences with our learn to solder workshop.

While we were there we got to meet up with Jeff from Sparkfun. 

 

IMAG0209We operated the soldering booth from 10-3 and afterwards were might hungry so on the way back we stopped at the Middlebury A&W for some burgers and floats.

In the coming weeks we have more soldering workshops to do, in St. Albans & the Centerpoint School. It’s going to be a hot summer!

Ruby the Hard Way Sessions

Join with new and experienced Ruby programmers in working through Ruby the Hard Way! This free to low cost way to learn about one of the most exciting dynamicreflective, general-purpose object-oriented programming language out there! These session will be scheduled regularly soon, but for tonight the jam starts at 6 PM at Laboratory B.

  • June 7th: 2600 Meeting: That’s tonight, we get together to swap stories, decompress and talk about cool stuff. Tonight 6/7 from 5-8pm at the Quarterstaff Game Lounge at 178 Main Street  above Body Art Tattoo.
  • June 12th: Our tried and true Learn to Solder workshop, come by the Lab from 6pm-8pm to learn to solder! We’ll be assembling Weevil Eye’s from Sparkfun. Donations welcome, RSVP [email protected] so we know your coming. Directions can be found here
  • June 22-23: Summer Cleaning, LAN Party, Hack-a-thon and BBQ Weekend! We’re going to spend the weekend cleaning house, organizing projects, playing video games, working on projects and enjoying some good livin’. Come on by the Lab to join in. More info to follow!
  • June 26th: Locksport Wednesday. Learn how locks work, and the fundamentals of physical security.
